It took me seven months to finally finish this entry. Wow. I haven’t been in the right headspace in a while and insomnia brought me to finish most of my buried drafts. Hah!
So let me share about this quaint restaurant and hidden cafe in the mountains of Baguio.
Gypsy by Chef Waya and Taguan Cafe
I have come to know of this place because one of my social media friends posted about it. I became curious so I clicked on the post and it just so happened I also had plans to visit the city of Pines — talk about perfect timing!
I included it in our itinerary — no set expectations as it was my first time hearing about it. It was a chill trip after all, so we were open to exploring anything.
It’s not my first trip up the mountains but it was my first time to visit and try this restaurant and cafe. It was our first stop, our first meal and it definitely did not disappoint.
The place is kinda far from the city center but what’s nice about Baguio is that cab fares are affordable. The place is situated kinda uphill so you have to watch out for the signage so you won’t miss it.
Food and Experience
We were greeted by a homey and cozy ambiance but we were too hungry so we didn’t waste time and ordered right away. The menu was extensive, from soups to salads, noodles to dumplings, sandwiches, and more. Most if not all are good for sharing.
Gypsy Baguio’s theme is “Travel the world on your plate with Chef Waya“. I know there’s a deeper story behind the line as it shows how carefully curated their menu was. They also have vegan options so everybody’s welcome!
We tried a few of the items from their menu and proceeded to move to their cafe to grab some coffee and dessert. I was really excited about Taguan Cafe. Aside from its cozy ambiance, It’s known for its dirty ube latte and I’m a sucker for anything ube and anything with coffee. So I made sure to try.

What I like about Gypsy and Taguan Cafe aside from their food, coffee, and cozy ambiance is their diversity. I noticed they accept servers who are differently abled and it sure did warm my heart. I have such a soft spot for them as I used to do some volunteer work.
The fog began to come down which made the temperature cooler but it just added to the entire experience. We stayed there for quite some time as it was a perfect spot for coffee and conversations. The only thing I was not a fan of was their dessert but maybe because I ordered the wrong cake… I will definitely try another one next time!
