Indochina Food Run

Who travels for food?

I do.

My friends and I take food seriously, we don’t just dine for the ‘gram. We don’t even care if we have to line up for an hour or two, or if we have to eat beside a canal, or even if there’s a language barrier. We find ways! As long as it’s good (clean) food, we’re down!

We went on a multi-city/country trip early this month and we sure had the best time exploring the streets of Bangkok, Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, and Ho Chi Minh, trying and tasting all sorts of dishes, drinks, and desserts.

I’ll be sharing where we ate and drank (or at least the food places and cafes whose names I can remember) and what were my favorite dishes/drinks.

Get ready to drool. Hah!

Siem Reap – Phnom Penh, Cambodia

I personally think Cambodia set their prices unfairly since almost all establishments charge in USD and change in their local currency.

When it comes to food though, I can say Cambodian dishes, also known as Khmer dishes, are rich in taste. Cambodia has some interesting dishes for all types of travelers meat lovers, vegetarians, vegans, Muslims, etc. Their famous dish is Amok and it’s my favorite among all the Cambodian dishes I’ve tried.

Also, if you can spare some time visiting the Russian Market, do try their seafood dishes! All the dishes we ordered were really flavourful and delicious. Don’t forget to ask for the English Menu!

Bangkok, Thailand

Thailand is not as affordable as Vietnam – Fact.

It may not be an uber-expensive place but it’s not cheap either. To a (self-proclaimed) foodie like me, I don’t mind paying extra as long as I get to eat AUTHENTIC and REAL GOOD food.

I’ve been a lover of Thai food ever since my freshman year in college after trying out one tiny Thai restaurant in my town. Planning this trip got me really excited because aside from all the sights I get to see, I can finally experience the authentic taste of Thailand.

Yummers! But for THB 129, the serving is not that huge…

We really wanted to try Jay Fai, as raved by many people. But timing wasn’t on our side. Jay Fai was closed on the dates we were in Bangkok so we had to make do and try something else. Hence, Nom Ring Klong. It was a good call.

From a random local restaurant in Ayutthaya. Not fancy but tastes really good!

Surprisingly delicious! Try it when you see it. It’s like roti but it’s not. They normally pair this with coconut milk and stuff.

I sure gained some pounds after this trip but it was all worth it (or not. Might regret saying this later, lol).

I hope this helps you complete your food list for your next Asian trip. If you have any questions or clarifications, feel free to reach out to me.
