1/2 FOUR OF TWELVE:
It’s our third year anniversary. We don’t usually define celebrating anniversaries by sending flowers, chocolates, gifts or having romantic dinners. We’d rather spend it by going somewhere else or trying something we’ve never done together.
This year, we decided to go to Sumilon Island, Oslob.
The only resort on the island is Sumilon Bluewater Resort, the sister resort of the popular Maribago Bluewater Resort in Mactan, Cebu. The 24-hectare resort offers 4-star accommodations with access to white sand and coral reef beaches. It is but a quiet island, perfect for relaxing if you want to get away from the hustle bustle of the city.
The drive to Oslob is a smooth and scenic experience. You get to see the south coastal road and you’ll be passing several cities and towns including Talisay, Minglanilla, Naga, San Fernando, Carcar, Sibonga, Argao, Dalaguete, Alcoy, Boljoon. However, to reach the island, you have to take a 15-30 minute bumpy boat ride from Bancogon Oslob to Sumilon Island.
The Island
Sumilon Island is located at the south-eastern tip of Cebu. It’s a three-hour drive from Cebu City to Bancogon pier in Oslob. From Oslob, you can leave your car in a comfortable parking area owned by the resort.
Sumilon Bluewater has their boat ride schedules on their website. If you’re planning to visit the island, it would be better to check the schedule first. The resort offers boat ride services for free if you avail of their day trip or regular packages.
The island has several white sand beaches, a lagoon, a hiking trail with beautiful panoramic views, a lighthouse, historical watchtower also known as “Baluarte”, and other resort facilities like the infinity pool overlooking the island of Cebu.
We got a deluxe room for free (you can check their published rates online) because I availed their membership. The room was really spacious for us. It has two queen-sized beds, a fridge, a sofa, a HUGE bathroom, and a balcony with a really relaxing view.
It was a perfect way to relax and at the same time spend quality time with each other. It was a perfect way to celebrate love.
